US & Middle East: The Energy War Escalates

The situation between the US, Israel, and Iran has reached a dangerous boiling point. President Trump has now made it clear: if Iran continues to strike Qatari gas facilities, the US is prepared to "massively blow up" the South Pars gas field—the largest of its kind in the world.

This follows a massive Israeli strike on Wednesday that hit the Iranian side of that very same gas field. While the White House initially claimed they "knew nothing" about the Israeli mission, reports are surfacing that the administration may have known more than they let on. Iran’s retaliation was swift, hitting Qatar’s Ras Laffan hub and forcing the shutdown of major facilities in Abu Dhabi. For us here in the Philippines and around the world, the impact is immediate—oil has jumped to $114 a barrel, and gas prices are up over 20%.
