A large check for a broker platform
Michael Dell's family office, DFO Management, is leading a deal worth about $7.7 billion to take insurance broker Baldwin Group private, the Financial Times reported, with Sequence as partner. The talks fit a wider wave of consolidation among brokers that sell coverage rather than underwrite it.
Take-privates of this size usually mean the buyers see stable cash flow and room to add smaller agencies.
Why brokers are in fashion
Commercial insurance pricing has been firm, and scale helps with carrier appointments and technology. Private capital has spent several years rolling up regional firms. Baldwin is a larger bite than most of those add-ons.
What still has to close
Near is not signed. Antitrust review, financing and any required shareholder vote are the standard gates. Until those clear, Baldwin trades as a company in play, not as a completed take-private.
