A risk-off Monday

Global equities fell on 14 September after leaders at major artificial-intelligence firms argued for slowing the pace of model development. Nasdaq 100 futures sank about 1.6%, S&P 500 contracts were down about 0.7%, and a chip ETF dropped more than 4% in early trade.

Nvidia, AMD, Micron and Intel all traded lower before the bell. Oil added a second shock: Brent rose above $107 a barrel and WTI above $103 after Middle East disruption, including pressure on Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline.

What the AI warning actually said

Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei called for a slower race on model capability. OpenAI's Sam Altman said a 2026 IPO would be ill-advised and pointed to 2027. Markets heard those lines as a possible brake on the data-center and chip boom.
