Supreme Court Again Leaves Missouri's 2022 Congressional Map in Place

The U.S. Supreme Court has again declined to let Missouri replace its 2022 congressional map with a newer plan drawn to strengthen Republican prospects in the midterms. After conflicting rulings in the state, the existing lines remain the ones voters will use this autumn.

Missouri officials had asked the justices for emergency relief to implement the revised map. The Court's refusal is the latest chapter in a redistricting fight that has bounced between state courts, federal courts and the emergency docket.

Why the timing decided the case as much as the law

Election maps that change weeks before ballots go out create the same problem as late voting-rule changes: counties cannot reprint and reassign in time.

What Missouri voters should expect

Candidates will run in the districts drawn in 2022. Lawsuits over the unused map may still be litigated for 2028. For November 2026, the Court has frozen the status quo.
