The relationship between the White House and the Holy See hit a new low this week as President Trump and Pope Leo XIV traded public barbs over the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Following the Pope's criticism of the U.S. administration's military strategy in Iran, Trump responded by telling the Pontiff he needs to "get real" about the "nasty" realities of global security.

The President defended his record, describing the war in Iran as a "little diversion" necessary to prevent nuclear escalation. While the Pope has called for immediate de-escalation and humanitarian focus, the President maintains that his "peace through strength" approach is what forced the current ceasefire. The public spat has highlighted a deep divide between the administration’s foreign policy and the Vatican’s diplomatic stance.
