A complaint over a chorus
Songwriter Aviel Calev Hirschfield sued Drake on Friday, claiming the chorus of the hit "Janice STFU" copies a demo he sent to Drake's team early this year, Billboard reported.
The copyright complaint, filed Oct. 16, also names Drake's company OVO Sound and Universal Music Group and asks for a share of the song's profits.
Why it drew attention
The song spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100, and a credit fight over the hook of a chart topper tends to travel fast through music and legal desks.
What a filing does not settle
Drake's team told Billboard the claims are "categorically, unequivocally and completely denied" and called the suit fabricated. A complaint is one side's account, no court has weighed it, and Universal had not commented when the story ran.
